The ice-cream routine
Every evening when Derek gets home Celeste runs to greet him. After a few minutes she grabs his hand and leads him to the freezer and trys to open the door. When he opens it she points to the Ice Cream. Their evening routine starts with a shared bowl of ice cream.
This afternnon we went out briefly and when we returned Celeste headed for the freezer. We decided to give her a spoonful but she got distracted and we never got around to giving it to her.
Imagine our surprise when half an hour later I asked Derek if he had given her the ice cream, and Celeste upon hearing the word dropped what she was doing and headed straight for the freezer. Pretty soon we’re going to have to start S-P-E-L-L-I-N-G words around her. For a child who doesn’t speak at all, she sometimes surprises us with how much she understands.
