Potty Training Surprise!
I’ve been thinking that potty training should be accomplished when kids can communicate clearly, Celeste has decided that she can communicate clearly enough, whether or not mummy is ready.
Over the past 3 days Celeste has developed an interest in sitting on her potty. She’d say “potty pee-pee” and off we go (reluctantly on my part) for her to sit on the potty fully clothed during the day and naked before her bath. From my perspective she treated it like a new chair and would finally get up off the potty after about 15 min. all smiles and still having done no pee-pee.
So this morning when Celeste woke up at 5:30am and asked for potty pee-pee, I ignored her and told her to go back to sleep. As soon as she awoke at 8:00 am she said “potty pee-pee”, so off we went to the potty. You can imagine that I was totally unprepared for her to actually USE the potty to poop. Especially since she wanted to sit on the adult potty (her seat transfers to an adult toilet to make it kid-size). I had dutifully removed her diaper for her to get the experience, only to find out that I was the one lacking experience in how to clean up a child on a potty. This was extremely trying since Celeste kept trying to wipe herself as well, while I struggled to keep us both poop free with Celeste in the background saying “change da diaper, change da diaper”.
What followed is either too comical or too sad to write down depending on your point of view. Suffice it to say that I’m calling everyone that has recently potty trained a child to find out how this juggling act is accomplished.
In this case however I think it’s a case of Celeste potty training her mummy.
