US Citizenship Right Around the Corner
Back in June, Kim and I finally applied for US citizenship. We could have done it about 1 1/2 years earlier, but we had been procrastinating. The final impetus we needed was two fold:
- I wanted to become a US citizen in time to be able to vote in the 2008 US elections
- The INS were raising the fees for applications at the end of July which would have ended up costing us almost US$800 each instead of $400.
While I thought the process would have taken a while, it actually moved along quite quickly. We had our fingerprints done just 1 month after applying and we just had the interview and civics test today, which Kim and I both successfully passed.
The next step is the swearing in as a US citizen which should occur within the next 1-2 months.
