Vacation in Trinidad

At he start of the year we weren’t planning to taking any kind of long vacation and certainly not an overseas trip, but it is surprising how quickly plans change.

Around March or April Brendan went to dentist for a tooth where a filling had fallen out and when the dentist examined his teeth, they told us he needed about $3,500 worth of dental work. That came as quite a shock! We even asked them what the minimum amount of work required was, after all, this is his first set of teeth that will eventually fall out, but they kept insisting that he needs all the work, some of which included things like dental crowns.

In the past we have had fillings done in Trinidad so we know what the cost of dental work is back there. We then looked at the cost of flights and figured out that we could actually spend less money by flying the whole family to Trinidad and have his dental work done there and get a vacation out of it.

After coordinating a set of appointments with the dentist in Trinidad, we made a 2-week trip back home at the beginning of June. We also timed the reip so that Kim and I would spend our anniversary and my birthday in Trinidad.

As an anniversary present, my parents treated us to a long weekend trip to Tobago with them and us. That was a very relaxing experience and one we hope to repeat whenever we fly back to Trinidad. I plan to also try and become a certified scuba diver so I can go scuba diving while there.

I turned out that Kim was also having a tooth that periodically gives her some trouble so she decided to visit the dentist too and to our surprised, we simply extracted the tooth.

I also have a serious tooth problem while there and had to visit the dentist. My problem was quite serious and would actually require dental surgery which I’ll get done in the US.
