Ballet Lessons
Today, Celeste attended her first ballet class. As soon as she got there and looked around she asked, “Where are MY ballet shoes mummy?” “And where are my ballet clothes and skirt?”. She was disappointed that she had to dance barefooted and without leotards and tights.
Technically, the class is for 3 yrs to 6 yrs but when I told the teachers that she was almost 3 they said that she could try out the class and see if she liked it. While I peeped from the room to which all parents were banned, I saw Celeste following along and practicing all the steps being shown. While usually going in a different direction from everyone else, her brow was knitted with concentration as she tried to get the footwork correct. She danced, skipped and pointed her toes with glee.
The dance class is broken into 2 parts; ballet class and tap and modern dance class. This week she did only the ballet but she was having so much fun, I think I’ll let her try the entire dance class next week. No doubt, I’ll be hearing the question, “Where are MY tap shoes mummy?” as soon as she realizes that all the other kids are wearing noisy shoes to dance.
Her ballet uniform has been ordered but won’t arrive for 2 weeks, so next week she’ll be going dressed as a ballerina in pink Barbie leotard and pink tutu (Barbie fairy princess outfit a friend gave her until her uniform arrives.
Derek took some pictures as she showed him what she had learned in class. She’s showing him Third Position arms, First position feet, pointed toes and preparing to skip.
