Treatment: Phase II: Chemotherapy
Kim saw the oncologist on Friday for her follow-up visit. As we had expected, they are pushing for her to do chemotherapy.
This will involve receiving the drugs over a 48-hour period every other week for 6 months. Once Kim starts chemotherapy, Brendan will need to stop breast feeding…permanently.
Kim is going to have a device implated in her chest this week. This is a port through which the drugs will be administered. It is like a permanent IV. Every other week, she will go into the oncologist’s office where they will connect a pump and start the flow of drugs. From what we can find out, this pump is a walkman-sized device. She will spend 2 hours at the office while the drugs start to flow. After that, she can leave, but will continue to receive the drugs overs a 48-hour period.
The oncologists doesn’t expect any hair loss, but she will experience fatigue.
The exact date of the first chemotherapy is still to be determined, but it’ll be within 2 weeks.
